We brush with toothpaste made for dogs. Human toothpaste contains xylitol and fluoride, both of which are harmful swallowed, and dogs swallow all of it. We work around the outer surfaces where tartar builds first, keep it calm, and stop if your dog is not comfortable.
Be clear on what this is: it helps keep things cleaner between proper cleanings. It does not remove existing tartar, treat gum disease or replace a dental under anesthetic at the vet. We try, briefly, and stop if he is not having it. We will tell you at pick up. Nothing is forced.
