The coat that holds a shape

Poodle Grooming in Miami, FL

Poodles have a single, dense, continuously growing coat. It does not shed out the way a double coat does, which means everything that comes loose stays in the coat and tangles. Left alone, it mats, and Miami humidity speeds that up considerably.

The flip side is that it holds a shape better than any other coat. A Poodle is the only dog where a groomer can genuinely sculpt, blend and round a line and have it stay there. That is why the classic cuts exist, and why Poodle grooming is a reasonable test of whether a salon knows what it is doing.

We groom Toy, Miniature and Standard Poodles, and Poodle mixes. Tell us the cut you want or bring a photo, and we will tell you honestly whether your dog's coat is in condition for it. Full grooms for Poodles start at $80 and are priced in their own column because the coat takes longer. Barky Lounge is a Miami dog groomer in Edgewater, on NE 18th Street.

Poodle Cuts We Do

Teddy bear cut

Rounded face, even body length, soft edges. The most requested Poodle cut we do, and the one most owners mean when they say "the fluffy one".

Puppy cut

Short and even all over, face included. Lowest maintenance and the easiest to keep mat free between appointments.

Lamb cut

Short body, longer legs, rounded face. Keeps shape on the legs without the full brushing commitment.

Full breed trim

The traditional show influenced shape, with the shaved face and feet. Less common but we do it properly. See breed specific grooming in Miami.

Summer cut

Taken shorter all over for the Miami heat, without going to the skin.

Face, feet and tail only

Body left as it is, just the breed standard clean areas done. See face trims.

Any of these can be finished by hand scissoring at $75 per hour for a softer, rounder line with no clipper marks.

If the coat is matted

We assess at drop off and tell you what we are looking at. Light matting comes out with a brush out service. Mats tight against the skin cannot be brushed out without hurting your dog, so we recommend taking the coat shorter and talk it through before we start. Read how to remove matted dog hair.

Poodle Grooming in Miami, Frequently Asked Questions

How much is Poodle grooming in Miami?

Full grooms from $80 for a Toy and $100 to $115 for a Miniature. Standards start at $120. Final price depends on size and coat condition.

How often should a Poodle be groomed?

Every 4 to 6 weeks, and closer to 4 in Miami. The coat does not shed out, so anything that comes loose stays in and tangles. More on grooming frequency for dogs.

What is a teddy bear cut?

Rounded face, even body length, soft edges rather than clipper lines. It is the most popular Poodle cut we do.

Do you shave the face and feet?

Only if you want the traditional breed trim. Most owners prefer the face left rounded, which is the teddy bear look.

Should I get a hand scissored cut?

If you want no clipper lines and a fuller shape, yes. It is $75 per hour on top of the groom. See hand scissored finishing.

How do I stop my Poodle matting between grooms?

Brush to the skin daily, especially behind the ears and under the collar and harness. Most owners brush the top layer only, which is why mats appear seemingly overnight.

Do you groom Poodle mixes?

Yes. See Goldendoodle and Labradoodle grooming for Doodles and the rest.
