Dog Dematting in Miami, FL

Mats are not just tangles. They pull on the skin every time your dog moves, trap moisture underneath, and get worse on their own. We assess the coat at drop off and tell you honestly whether it can be brushed out or whether a shorter cut is the kinder option. Dematting is $30 per 30 minutes, so you only pay for the time it takes.

Best groomer in Miami! I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my baby. They’re so gentle, caring, and always make her look absolutely perfect. The best part is that she’s actually excited to go every time, which says everything. We’ve been coming here for almost two years now, and I’m so grateful we found them. Truly the best! ❤️🐶

We got recommended by our previous groomer that moved out of town. And we could not be happier. Suni enjoyed the groom so much that she greeted us with so much excitement. The front desk person was super sweet and friendly. The groomer Kharla did an amazing job and our dog came home soft and fluffy and smell so good. I’m happy to say we have found our new go to place for our pup.
Comfort first, haircut second

Matted Dog Hair Removal in Miami, FL

A mat starts as loose hair caught in the coat and tightens from there. Once it is locked against the skin it pulls with every step, keeps air and moisture out, and the skin underneath gets red and sore. In Miami humidity it happens faster than most owners expect, especially behind the ears, under the legs and anywhere a harness or collar sits.

At drop off we go through the coat with you and tell you what we are looking at. Light matting brushes out safely, and that is the job. Mats that are tight to the skin cannot be brushed out without hurting your dog, and no amount of time changes that, so in those cases we recommend taking the coat shorter and talk it through before we touch anything.

We will not put a dog through pain for the sake of a longer haircut, and we never start work you have not agreed to. Dematting is bookable with our luxury dog bath or full grooming service. Barky Lounge is an experienced dog groomer in Miami, based in Edgewater.

How We Demat a Coat

Every dematting starts the same way, with a look at the coat and a conversation with you.

  • Coat assessment at drop off, mat by mat, with you there
  • An honest answer on whether brushing out is safe or whether a shorter cut is kinder
  • A time estimate before we start, so you know what it will cost
  • Careful work with dematting tools and conditioner, in sections, with breaks
  • Skin check underneath as the mats come out
  • Brush out and bath to finish, so the coat is clean and sitting right

If we find sore skin, a hot spot or anything that looks like it needs a vet, we will show you and recommend you have it looked at. Read our guide to safely removing matted dog hair.

Dog Dematting Prices in Miami, FL

Dematting is $30 per 30 minutes, added to the bath or groom it is booked with. You pay for the time it takes, nothing more.

Service price
Deshedding $30 per 30 minutes
Luxury Bath Service From $50
Full Groom Service From $70

Note: We estimate the time at drop off and will not run past it without checking with you first. If the coat turns out to be worse underneath than it looked, we stop and call you.

Can the Mats Come Out, or Does the Coat Need to Go Shorter?

What the coat looks like What we would do
Small knots you can get a comb through Brush out, often no dematting charge needed
Mats you can lift away from the skin Dematting, usually 30 to 60 minutes
Mats flat against the skin, no gap underneath A shorter dog haircut, brushing these out would hurtt
The whole coat has felted together Shave down, then a fresh start
Mats only behind the ears or under the legs Spot dematting, body left long
Red or broken skin under a mat We stop and recommend a vet check first

“If we recommend a shave down”: It is not the outcome anyone wants, but a shaved coat grows back healthy and your dog is comfortable in the meantime. We will show you exactly where the problem is before we do it, and we will never shave a dog without your say so.

Dog Dematting in Miami, Frequently Asked Questions

How much does dematting cost?

$30 per 30 minutes, on top of the bath or groom it is added to. We estimate the time at drop off.

Light matting does not, when it is done properly with conditioner and the right tools. Mats that are tight against the skin do hurt to brush out, which is exactly why we recommend a shorter cut in those cases instead of pulling at them.

Only when the mats are flat to the skin. At that point there is no way to get a tool underneath without pulling the skin, and an hour of pulling is worse for your dog than a haircut that grows back.

Small knots, yes, with a comb and patience. Anything you cannot lift away from the skin, no. Scissors are the main cause of grooming injuries we see, because the skin tents up into the mat. To see how we keep coats knot free, read about our professional dog brush out.

Brush right through to the skin, not just the top layer, and come in every 4 to 6 weeks. Curly and long coats in Miami usually need every 4. More on how often dogs need grooming.

No. We will tell you honestly what we can and cannot do, give you the options, and go from there.
