Hand Scissored Dog Grooming in Miami, FL
A clipper cuts everything to one length. That is exactly what you want on a lot of coats, and it is fast, even and easy to maintain. What it cannot do is leave a soft edge or a rounded shape, because the guard decides the length, not the groomer.
Hand scissoring works the other way. The groomer shapes the coat section by section, blending as they go, so there is no clipper line and the coat keeps some weight to it. On a Doodle or a Poodle the difference is obvious: the face stays round, the legs keep their shape, and the whole dog looks fuller rather than flattened.
It needs a coat in good condition to work. Knots and mats have to come out first, because you cannot scissor a shape into hair that is stuck together. What a Hand Scissored Groom Involves
Hand scissoring is added to a full groom. The prep matters as much as the cutting.
- Bath and full blow dry, because the coat has to be straight to cut it accurately
- Brush out right through to the skin

- Face, legs and tail shaped by hand to finish

Most of the hand scissoring we do is part of our Poodle grooming and Goldendoodle grooming, and a lot of those dogs come from the Design District, Buena Vista, Midtown and the towers around Margaret Pace Park, a block from our door.

How much does hand scissoring cost?
$75 per hour on top of the full groom. A medium Doodle is usually 1 to 2 hours of scissoring.
Why is it more expensive than a clipper cut?
It is one groomer, by hand, for the whole cut, the same one on one grooming approach we use for every dog. There is no faster way to do it, and the time is the cost.
How long will my dog be with you?
Usually 3 to 4 hours including the bath and dry, longer for a large dog or a thick coat.
Can you scissor a matted coat?
No. Mats have to come out before anything can be shaped. We will tell you at drop off whether dematting is needed and what it will add. Read more on removing mats from a dog’s coat.
Can I have just the face scissored?
Yes, and it is a popular option. Clipper the body with one of our standard dog haircuts in Miami, then scissor the face, ears and legs. Softer look, shorter appointment, lower cost.
Will it last longer than a clipper cut?
