Dog Nail Grinding in Miami, FL
Clipping leaves a flat, sharp edge. Grinding smooths it off, so nothing catches on your floors, your furniture or your legs when your dog jumps up. It takes a couple of extra minutes and it is included with every bath and full groom we do.

Nail Grinding for Dogs in Miami, FL
A freshly clipped nail is sharp. It is a clean cut across a hard surface, and the edge it leaves will scratch hardwood, pull threads out of a couch and leave marks on your arms. Grinding takes that edge off with a rotary tool, rounding the tip so the nail is smooth all the way around.
It also lets us take the nail slightly shorter than clipping alone safely allows, because we can work gradually and watch the quick rather than committing in one cut. For dogs with dark nails where the quick is not visible, that matters.
Grinding is part of our Miami dog nail trimming, and both are included in the luxury bath service and full grooming at our Edgewater salon on NE 18th Street. Barky Lounge is a Miami pet groomer, minutes from Downtown, Midtown and Brickell.
What Nail Grinding Includes
- Nails clipped to length first, a few at a time for dogs who need breaks
- Each tip ground smooth with a rotary tool
- Dewclaws done as well, which are the ones that get missed and curl
- Quick checked as we go, so we take as much as is safe and no more
- Paw pads checked for cracks, debris and overgrown fur, which we tidy with a sanitary trim for dogs
Included at no extra cost with every bath and full groom. On its own it is part of a nail trim from $15.

Which Dogs Need Nail Grinding
| Your dog | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Jumps up on people | Rounded nails do not scratch |
| Lives on hardwood or tile | No clicking, no scratches, better grip |
| Has dark nails | We can take more off safely, working gradually |
| Catches nails on bedding or carpet | A sharp clipped edge is usually the cause |
| Has dewclaws that curl | These get missed at home and can grow into the pad |
| Hates having paws handled | Grinding a few at a time with breaks is easier than clipping |

Dog Nail Grinding in Miami, Frequently Asked Questions
Is grinding better than clipping?
They work together. We clip to length, then grind to smooth and refine. Grinding alone on a long nail takes far too long.
Does it hurt?
No. The nail has no feeling, only the quick inside does, and grinding lets us stop before we reach it.
Will my dog mind the noise?
Some do at first. We introduce the tool gradually and do a few nails at a time. Most dogs settle once they realize it does not hurt.
How often do nails need doing?
Every 4 to 6 weeks for most dogs. If you can hear them on the floor, they are too long. Read how often to trim your dog’s nails. If you’d rather do it yourself between visits, see how to trim dog nails safely at home.
Can I just come in for nails?
Yes. Nails are welcome as a walk in when there is space. Call ahead on (786) 409-2885 to check, or see our opening hours.
Do you grind cats' nails?
No. Barky Lounge is dogs only.
