Goldendoodle and Doodle Grooming in Miami, FL
The Doodle coat is the hardest coat we deal with, and the reason is genetics. Two generations in, a litter can produce tight Poodle curl, loose Retriever wave, and a flat coat that barely curls at all. Owners of two Goldendoodles the same age often get completely different advice from their groomers, and both groomers may be right.
What is consistent is that Doodle coats mat. They do not shed cleanly, the loose hair stays in the coat, and the curl holds it there. In Miami humidity that happens fast, and the coat change at around 8 to 12 months is when most owners get caught out, because the adult coat comes in underneath the puppy coat and mats where the two meet. That is why Doodle puppy grooming matters as much as the adult cuts.
We assess the coat at drop off and tell you honestly what it needs. Sometimes that is a hand scissored cut that keeps the shape owners want. Round face, even body, soft edges. What most Doodle owners want, and what most photos online show.
Puppy cut
Short and even everywhere. The lowest maintenance option and the easiest coat to keep mat free.
Summer cut
Taken shorter for the Miami heat. Popular from April onwards and kinder on a coat that mats.
Hand scissored finish
No clipper lines, fuller shape. The coat has to be knot free for it. $75 per hour.
Face and feet tidy
Body left as it is, just the face, paws and a dog sanitary trim. Buys time between full grooms.
Short all over
What we recommend when the coat is already matted. It grows back healthy.

It is not what any Doodle owner wants to hear. But brushing out mats that sit flat against the skin takes hours and hurts your dog, and the result is a damaged coat anyway, which is why our dematting service in Miami is for lighter mats only. We go over the cut you want, check the coat, and confirm the price before we start. If you're running late, call or message us. Arrivals more than 15 minutes late may be treated as a walk-in, depending on availability.

How often should a Doodle be groomed?

Why does my Doodle mat so quickly?
The coat does not shed out. Loose hair stays in the coat and the curl holds it there, so it tangles from the inside. Humidity and swimming both speed it up.
Can you keep my Doodle fluffy?
Yes, if the coat is brushed properly at home between grooms. A fluffy cut needs a knot free coat to cut into, so it is as much about your brushing as our cutting. Regular dog brush outs at the salon help too.
My Doodle's coat is changing. What should I do?
Brush daily through the transition, usually 8 to 12 months. The adult coat coming in under the puppy coat is where most of the matting happens.
What brush should I use?
A slicker brush and a metal comb. Use the comb to check your work. If the comb will not go through to the skin, the area is not brushed out, whatever the slicker made it look like. Both are stocked in our Miami pet store.
Will you shave my Doodle?
Only if the coat is matted to the skin, and only after showing you why and getting your agreement. We never shave a dog without your say so.
